A Crown We Were Born to Wear
An early introduction to an upcoming soundtrack for the Negritude film.

There are stories that deserve to be told, legacies that must never be forgotten, and crowns that were never meant to be removed. As we prepare to share more from the forthcoming soundtrack album for the Negritude film, I am pleased to offer a first glimpse into one of its tracks: “Kings & Queens.”
This piece is a homage to the kings and queens of the African, Caribbean, and wider Americas diaspora—a tribute to our ancestry, our cultural inheritance, our resilience, and the enduring spirit of a people whose greatness extends far beyond what history has chosen to document.
A subtle reminder, that our royalty is not defined solely by titles, kingdoms, or the recognition of others. It lives in our heritage, our dignity, our creativity, our perseverance, and the generations whose shoulders we stand upon. It is reflected in the richness of our cultures and in the countless ways our people have continued to create, contribute, endure, and rise.
“Kings & Queens” is an invitation to remember. To reconnect. To recognize the beauty and significance of who we are—and to carry that understanding with us, wherever life takes us.
This is only an introduction. There is much more to come as the forthcoming soundtrack album takes shape and its stories begin to unfold. For now, I will leave you with the essence of this offering: a salute to our lineage, a celebration of our identity, and a gentle but powerful call to embrace the royalty within.
Know your worth. Honour your roots. Wear your crown with pride—and do so expeditiously.
Some legacies are inherited. Others are reclaimed. And some have been ours all along.
